Icy and Sot
(IRN)See yourself within all others
now on view
Through stencils, installations, interventions, videos and performances, brothers Icy and Sot bring social and political issues like human rights and environmental crises to the forefront. Over the years, the brothers faced persecution for voicing their opinions and were forced to endure many obstacles, such as the inability to ship their artworks or even attend their own exhibitions abroad. In 2012, they fled Iran, and they have been living as political refugees in New York ever since.
With their message-driven artworks that tackle contemporary issues with a twist, they aim to introduce new perspectives to global crises. See Yourself within All Others is a case in point. The interactive sculpture made of mirrored glass takes the form of the universally recognizable silhouette of fleeing refugees. Meant to be viewed from different angles, See Yourself within All Others insinuates that there are many sides to a story.
