Startup Village

In collaboration with Startup Village, STRAAT Museum facilitated the creation of a large-scale mural by Amsterdam-based artist Arjan Jansen, better known as YorkOne. Located at the heart of Amsterdam Science Park, Startup Village serves as a dynamic hub where academic research, technology, and entrepreneurship converge, supporting startups and scale-ups in fields such as AI, quantum computing, and innovation.
The aim of the project was to transform two shipping containers into a striking visual landmark that reflected Startup Village’s mission of turning science into business. The artwork needed to function as an inspiring backdrop for tours, networking events, and photography, while capturing the energy and ambition of the entrepreneurial community.
Drawing on his background in graffiti, typography, and abstract composition, YorkOne created a bold mural that combined expressive lettering, graphic forms, and vibrant visual rhythms. His design translated themes of innovation, experimentation, and forward-thinking into a highly recognizable public artwork. The result was a distinctive focal point for the campus—one that strengthened Startup Village’s identity and celebrated the creative spirit driving Amsterdam’s startup ecosystem.
